The Wilson Kids | Melbourne childrens portraits

Had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with these munchkins on Wednesday. At 4, 3 and 10 months they were a handful but SOOOO eager to have their photo taken which was great. Sometimes i’ll walk into a house and have to spend the first hour coaxing the child out from behind mums knee. Not the case with these three LOL, there were arguments and fights over who would get to have their photo taken in their room first. Nothing like a few enthusiastic models to make my job easier  ;)

Here’s a few favorites so far, the rest will be up in a gallery for you ASAP Katrina

Harvey | Melbourne baby portraits

I had a lovely session this morning with this sweet little family. Here’s just a few quick sneak peeks. This little man kept us all on our toes, i don’t think he stood still for longer than 3 seconds for the entire 2 hours we were together. Such a cutie though, those chubby cheeks remind me of my son when he was a baby.
Thanks again for meeting up with me Melissa and Stewart, and i’ll have your full gallery ready soon.

What should they wear??

Once a client has settled on a time and location, this question is always the next thing on their minds. What i tend to recommend to everyone is the same as most other photographers out there (the decent ones anyway LOL) and that is to avoid anything with large logos or cartoon characters (like the wiggles, Thomas, TMNT etc) and to try and coordinate everyone in a way so that one person doesn’t stand out more than the others.

Now if you are not a visual person this can be a pretty tricky thing to get your head around. Often people freak out completly and rock up to the session with a suitcase full of clothing choices, or just go for the easy option and put everyone in plain tops and jeans. But honestly, how often does the whole family walk around wearing matching white tops and jeans?

Instead why not try to be a bit more bold with your colour choices when it comes to picking clothes, don’t be afraid of mixing colours and patterns. As long as you stick to small prints and basic shapes, then you can’t go wrong. To help you out i’ve decided to start showing you some clothing colour combinations that can be used as a guide to picking out your own clothing options. I don’t expect every client to go out and buy a new outfit for their session either, you can just these guides as starting points and go through your own wardrobes to see if you have similar items that fit.

Every few weeks as the seasons change, i’ll post up a few new guides that clients can refer to to help them out. Today i have some for winter and spring to get you started. All of the clothing in these guides are available from either www.babysgotstyle.com.au or www.seedkids.com.au, and are not as expensive as one might presume. Most of the outfits cost less than $60 to put together. And i have tried to include items such as jeans and leg-ins which can be found in most home wardrobes already.

PS: I am not affiliated with either online store used in these guides. I put these guides together myself. I do happen to be a regular customer of both though and have nothing but good things to say about them, Especially Baby’s got Style which i shop at at least once every few months and you can ALWAYS find something fantastic on sale. Don’t be scared off by the high end brand names. Most of the clothing (especally when on sale) is no more expensive than what you’d find at Target.

Glorious spring | Melbourne candid portraits

The kids and I made the most of the sunshine today. It was such a gorgeous spring-ish day which, whilst basking in the unseasonal warmth,  made me realize that we really are not that far away from spring and summer. That means the busiest time of the year is just around the corner.

If you were thinking of giving friends and family portrait for christmas, or even if you are just hanging out until the nice weather arrives before you book in, you need to be aware that See Be Art will be closing on the 1st of December until the 10th of January 2010 (as it does every year). Which means that if you are wanting photos before Christmas you need to organize your session for no later than the end of October.

Sessions get filled out very quickly during the august-october period so it’s always best to get in early to secure yourselves a session. As i am also photographing a few weddings towards the end of the year, certain weekends will no longer be available.

So my point is, get organized ;)

Baby Belly | Melbourne maternity photos

On Sunday I had the pleasure of heading for a lovely drive through the country to meet up with Briony and Mark, who are expecting their first little bundle in a few weeks. Mark is my husbands cousin and it was a pleasure taking photos them in their lovely home. We even got their cute fur-babies involved. I can’t wait to go back in a few weeks time to meet their new little bubba and take some more photos, but for now here are a few favourite bump shots.
